Seeing Green
From the beginning, Wendell Falls has made a commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability. A recent report from Southern Energy shows just how successful we have been at holding to this commitment to the residents and the environment.
The homes built in Wendell Falls are 22% more efficient than the average existing home in North Carolina. While this number is impressive on its home, it is important to understand the cumulative effect this efficiency has. The green living standards put forth by the community have avoided 3,500 pounds of carbon emissions so far this year and an incredible 110 million pounds of carbon emissions over the lifetime of the project.
So far this year, this commitment to energy efficiency has saved each homeowner approximately $697 per year on utilities. Because of savings like these, Wendell Falls has saved its residents over $7.5 million in the last ten years. To put that in perspective, the amount of energy saved is equivalent to the amount of energy used to power over 7,000 houses for a year. Who doesn’t love more money in their pocket?
In addition to energy efficiency, Wendell Falls has put a conscious effort into the efficient use of water. The homes in the community have saved an average of 2,100 gallons of water every year. Through the project’s lifetime, the community has saved 24.1 million gallons of water because of its commitments.
Looking ahead, Wendell Falls will continue to demonstrate both thoughtful design and a commitment to green living.
