Solar Added to Wendell Falls Home
Dec. 18, 2018 / PRZen / WENDELL, N.C. -- Southern Energy Management has partnered with Homes by Dickerson to install solar on their model home at 416 Vintage Point Lane in Wendell Falls as part of the Zero Energy Blueprint program.
The Zero Energy Blueprint program is designed to take high-performance homes to the next level by combining high-performance building with solar energy. As part of the program, this 2,645 square foot ranch-style living model home — consisting of three bedrooms, and three bathrooms — boasts a 26 panel, 7.67 kW solar system which will produce more than 50% of the home's energy needs.
Southern Comfort, the name given to the home for the Triangle Parade of Homes, achieved an incredibly low HERS Score of 19 (the average HERS Score in Wendell Falls is 63). By pairing of efficient building practices with solar energy, this home is projected to have an energy bill of only $75 a month, saving upwards of $3,100 per year when compared to an average existing home in the United States (which have an average HERS score of approximately 130).
The model home won first place in the category of $497,000 to $526,000 range during the Triangle Parade of Homes. On this free, self-guided tour, visitors were able to walk through this modern marvel that goes above and beyond standards of environmental efficiency and green living.
Southern Energy Management residential solar specialist Graham Alexander believes that the adoption of solar on the model home is a powerful statement from the Homes by Dickerson team and represents the tip of the iceberg for solar in the community.

"Having solar panels on their model home is an example of the market leadership and adopting progressive, and sustainable smart home technologies."
